Day of the Great October Socialist Revolution

On the night of November 7-8 (new style) 1917 in Petrograd, at the signal - a shot from the cruiser "Aurora", armed workers, soldiers and sailors led by V.A. Antonov-Ovseenko seized the Winter Palace and overthrew the Provisional Government. And the All-Russian II Congress of Soviets, which was taking place at that time, proclaimed Lenin's decrees on Peace, on Land and the Power of the Soviets.

The Great October Socialist Revolution had taken place!

The result of the Great October was the creation of the world's first proletarian state - the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. A state in which 130 nationalities and ethnic groups lived peacefully, which was able to win the most destructive war of the 20th century, and just a few years later begin implementing an ambitious space program. All this became possible only because the Soviet Union carried out industrialization, collectivization and a cultural revolution in the shortest possible time, and a powerful Red Army was created.

The scientific, technical and military potential that was created continues to serve modern Russia. Many scientists and engineers, public figures, and military personnel trained in the Soviet Union are still working for the benefit of Russia today.

For example, the technologies of emergency monitoring, warning and prevention systems (EMIS) were developed by scientists and engineers who came from the USSR.

The socialist revolution predetermined all further development not only of Russia, but also led to the collapse of the colonial system in the countries of Asia, Africa, Latin America, the creation of dozens of socialist and non-aligned states. The camp of socialist states, countries of the non-aligned movement, that emerged after the Great Patriotic War, allowed to ensure the longest peaceful period of existence of mankind on earth.

October Revolution Day is celebrated on November 7 all over the world, officially celebrated in Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Transnistria.

The legendary cruiser - a symbol of the October Revolution - was put on permanent mooring at the Petrograd Embankment in Leningrad in November 1948. It is a museum ship, a branch of the Central Naval Museum, an object of cultural heritage of the Russian Federation.
